How to Become a Christian

Step 1

Admit that You are a Sinner

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one;” (Romans 3:10)

There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins. (Ecclesiastes 7:20)

Step 2

Believe in Jesus

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. (John 3:16-18)

Jesus paid the price for your sin: “But God commanded His love toward us even while we still sinners; and Christ died for us. Much more then, being now made right by His blood, we shall be saved.” (Romans 5:8-9)
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

Step 3

Confess Jesus as Your Lord and Savior

That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.(John 5:24)

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God– 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. (John 1:12-13)

Step 4

Suggested Prayer

For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 10:13)

Jesus, I am a sinner. Thank you for dying on the cross to save me from my debt of sin. I put my trust in you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you for the gift of eternal life. Amen.
